10 Tools and Resources to Discover Travel Trends and Topics

There are numerous websites, tools and resources that you can use to monitor popular travel trends and topics like Google Trends, Ubersuggest and Travel Massive to name a few. 

Here are 10 tools and resources that will help you to do your topic research.

1. Exploding Topics

Exploding Topics ( is one of the tools every writer should have in their toolkit. It uses an AI powered algorithm to uncover new trending topics. It analyses searches, conversation, and social mentions to find out topics that are trending or are about to take off. They cover a wide range of industries and travel is one of them. 

2. Google Trends 

Google and data are almost synonyms. Google as a company is gathering data on virtually every topic in a variety of ways, in Google Search you can search the entire web, Google Analytics analyses web performance of more than 90% of all websites. They make part of this data available for marketeers and advertisers. So, Google Trends ( is another great tool to use when researching topics to write about. 

In Google Trends you can see how the popularity of keywords change over time and sorted by location. You can use this tool to find new topic ideas and see how popular topics and keywords are that you are writing about. The only downside is that in Google Trends you only see relative popularity on a scale of 0-100. So, you will need to consult additional sources to estimate how many people search for these topics each month. 

3. Pinterest Trends

If you have a Pinterest account, you can check out Pinterest Trends ( Pinterest is the largest bookmarking social platform with more than 431 million monthly active users. In this tool you can find out topics that are trending on Pinterest. Pinterest Trends shows a historic development of the top search terms and topics in the US, UK and Canada within the past 12 months. Search behaviour on Pinterest is especially useful for marketeers because users on Pinterest are often close to a buying decision. 

4. Think With Google 

You don’t always need to do the research yourself. On Think With Google (, Google is publishing lots of research reports based on their own data, often also in collaboration with some top research or consultancy firms. They have a collection of research articles focused only on travel and tourism.  

5. Google Ads 

Google is everywhere. Another Google product that you can use to discover and analyze keywords and travel topics. If you are advertising through Google Search or Display networks, you have access to their keyword planner. Google Ads will give you keyword volume and features a graph showing the changing interest over time. The great thing about Google keyword planner is that it also gives you a list of related search keywords and topics to consider, together with search volumes. You can use AdWords in combination with Google Trends to identify the specific numbers behind trending topics. 

6. Neil Patel Ubersuggest 

Keyword research should be an important part when writing a new piece of content. Proper keyword research makes you understand what your target audience and reader is interested in and will give you more ideas about what content to develop for your audience. 

Part of topic research is looking at what competitors have already written about your topic. Without doing an analysis of the competition out there, it will be hard to find a unique angle for your topic that has not been covered yet. Doing this research will eventually help you to rank higher for these keywords. And that’s our final goal as a content creator, that our content will be read by many.

The official websites of national tourism boards are true goldmines. Almost every country, region and city has its own tourist information board, also known as Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), providing lots of local information about that destination. It provides information that goes well beyond the usual tourist attractions and also provides recommendations for places to stay, eat, drink and visit.

The website is managed by the Netherlands Board of Tourism & Conventions and a full-fledged team of editors who create hundreds of articles, video clips and recommendation for highlights. Travelers can find everything from hotspots to hidden gems and from nature destination to unique activities. 

  1. Brazil ( is the official Brazilian Tourism Board website. They provide a great overview of places to visit in Brazil and give lots of ideas for unique experiences. The website is all about conveying the feel-good vibe of Brazil. They also have very active social accounts. 

  1. South Korea ( is the official tourism board website of South Korea. The website is maintained very well. They pay a lot of attention to wat South Korea has to offer on the cultural side like the food scene, festivals and Korean movies and series. 

8. Travel Massive 

If you are not on Travel Massive ( yet, this is the place to be for everyone that is active in the travel industry. The community of travel professionals is very extensive with more than 5,000 active members. Travel Massive is a community for travel insiders, creators, and founders around the world to share their latest projects, network and stay up to date with travel developments. They also run chapters in most cities around the world that come together periodically to meet and share experiences. 

9. Travel News Websites and Organizations 

There are a couple of travel industry news websites and organizations that give you up-to-date information about the latest developments in the travel industry. – Skift is a travel industry news site that provides market research and marketing services to the travel industry. Their content is highly data and research driven, which makes it a great place to find out about new travel trends. – PhocusWire is a travel industry news companion that is powered by Phocuswright, one of the most respected travel research organizations in the world. 

Travel Weekly – A travel industry B2B news website that covers all the main travel sectors like airlines, car rental, cruises and hotels. 

World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) – A non-profit membership-based organisation with 200 CEOs, Chairpersons, and Presidents of the world’s leading Travel & Tourism companies around the world. They provide a lot of macroeconomic industry research. 

United Nation World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) – The UNWTO is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. 

10. Talk With People 

The biggest resource you can find is to talk with other people about travel. It will give you the best insights into what people are looking for when travelling. Talk with travelers, friends and go to industry travel events.
